ABOUT DELAWARE CURATIVESixty years of history as a not for profit organization means that you must be doing something right. Delaware Curative Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Centers, for many years known as the Delaware Curative Workshop celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2005. Founded by the Junior League of Wilmington and other prominent members of the community, we were the first provider of Outpatient Physical & Occupational Therapies in Delaware. Delaware Curative currently offers comprehensive rehabilitation services, including Physical, Occupational, Hand, Speech and Aquatic therapy to individuals of all ages. Over our sixty years of history, we have treated over one hundred thousand individuals. Accomplishments: In 1946, in response to the growing recognition of the benefits of physical rehabilitation Delaware Curative began providing therapy in every nursing home, hospital and in many personal residences in New Castle County. We treated patients with all types of orthopedic and neurological problems including extremities, back spinal cord and brain injuries. Delaware Curative launched many needed services that have gone on to thrive on their own: Also in the 1950’s, we launched Delaware’s first developmental program for children, the Child Development Center that became the Development Delay program at the Alfred I. duPont Institute. We have the longest continuously running pediatric development program in Delaware. We offer year round services for children 0-17 years of age who need Occupational, Speech & Physical Therapy including Camp Curative, Aquatic therapy classes and Handwriting program. In the 1960’s we developed a program with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation to prepare disabled people for employment. In the 1970’s we began Delaware’s first injured worker program designed to prepare injured workers to return to their jobs. We also developed Delaware’s first program for victims of chronic pain and introduced Delaware’s first acupuncture services. With the assistance of the United Way of Delaware added complimentary transportation for our adult patients who otherwise could not attend therapy. In the 1990’s when the population shifted in Delaware we shifted our locations by adding outpatient centers in Newark, North Wilmington, Bear, Middletown and Delaware and are currently looking for a location in Sussex County. We have expanded our pediatric services to our Middletown and Newark centers as well as our traditional Wilmington location. Since the turn of the 21st Century Delaware Curative continues to be a vital part of the physical therapy and rehabilitation services throughout the state. We've celebrated our 60th anniversary in 2005 and have added a new location in Rehoboth Beach. Our commitment to quality services is never ending. |
